Mary Fleming in Musgrave’s 'Mary, Queen of Scots' at ENO

Siân will be making her English National Opera debut as Mary Fleming in Thea Musgrave’s Mary, Queen of Scots.

Making its ENO premiere, this critically acclaimed modern opera set 500 years ago tells the story that still resonates today. With hostile forces on every side, Mary I of Scotland attempts to secure a happy future for herself and her country.

One of Scotland’s most esteemed composers, Thea Musgrave captures the drama in a thrilling, atmospheric score rooted in the rough-hewn Highlands of Elizabethan times.

Conducting this modern masterpiece is Joana Carniero, who makes a welcome ENO return after she conducted The Handmaid’s Tale in 2022 and 2024.

Soprano Heidi Stober will bring Musgrave’s radiant melodies to life on stage as Queen Mary. She will be joined by two former ENO Harewood Artists Alex Otterburn as James Stewart, Earl of Moray and Nicky Spence as James Hepburn, Earl of Bothwell. Also making a welcome return is bass Alastair Miles as Lord Gordon.

Libretto by Thea Musgrave based on Amalia Elguera’s play Moray.

Hermia in Britten's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' - Opera North

This Autumn Siân will be making her role and house debut as Hermia in Opera North’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Benjamin Britten.

An operatic adaptation of Shakespeare’s comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream traces a tangled web of relationships hurtling towards catastrophe. In the woods, meet the feuding Fairy King and Queen, and in Athens, meet a confused quadrangle of lovers. As these characters’ stories intertwine, one thing is inevitable… magic, mischief and mayhem are sure to follow.

Britten’s music vividly sets the scene for a light-hearted and enchanting romp and is recognised as some of his best opera writing. Combined with Martin Duncan’s joyously theatrical production, expect an intoxicating atmosphere and plenty of laughs.
